Fashion Queen Wig Wardrobe - $10

1963 Mattel Barbie Model #871

vintage barbie wig wardrobe

Here's a Bargain Basement deal for someone who wants a restoration project.  Vintage one-owner Fashion Queen Wig Wardrobe complete with Fashion Queen head and three wigs on the stand.  The wig styles and colors are:
1)  titian bubble
2)  blond pageboy
3)  brunette flip (factory clip to retain the shape still attached)

Obviously it was not played with much, if at all, but sadly the problems that typically plague this item over time are present -- she has green ear and the wigs are stuck to the plastic stand.

The wig stand has a few melt marks on it as well as the staple that attached it to the original packaging.  The wigs have beautifully retained their original styles, with just a few wispy strands.  I don't know if there's a safe way to remove them from the stand, but I hope so because they are in wonderful condition and have vibrant color.

Krista at Doll Restoration says it can be done:
Q. How do I remove a Fashion Queen wig from its wig stand?
 A. The two plastics have fused together over time.  The best thing to do is (using a blow dryer) heat the area that has fused and gently pry the two pieces apart.  Be careful not to singe the hair.

The Fashion Queen's makeup is gorgeous with no rubs and lots of smoky eye shadow.  Somehow the green also made it onto her lips.  The marks shown on the eyelashes are just a reflection of the flash, but there is a pin-point spot of fading on the left side of her painted hair (see close-up photo).  She has her original blue headband, no nose nips or neck splits.

Nothing has been done to treat the green ear.  This is part of a collection from the original owner and it has been stored in a trunk for decades.  The earrings are still in the ears and there's a bit of chunky green residue that could be wiped off, but I didn't even do that because I know there's differing opinions on treating green ear.  I've read you should immediately remove the earrings and I've also read the opposite, that you should leave the earrings in until you're ready to start treatment, so I've just left everything as it is.  I know for certain that it's best to start off with something that hasn't been tampered with, so you will receive all the items in original untouched condition.
